Steve DeForest
portrays attorney Jim Aiken. Steve began his career in
show business as a professional model, showcasing After Six and Lord
West formal wear. He has appeared in network television shows as
well as feature films for theatrical release and now performs regularly
with theatre companies in Southern California, Australia, and New
Zealand.
Recently, we
sat down with Steve and asked him a few questions about the
film and his character.
- You play the character of Jim Aiken. Can you tell us about him?
Jim Aiken is one hell of a guy and one great character to play.
He is successful, educated, well-spoken and respected. He has an uncanny ability to
"read" people and situations. All of these qualities make him an excellent and
formidable litigator.
Jim is also a loyal friend, very logical
and practical, dedicated to his work and is physically and emotionally unshakeable...even in the most extreme
situations. He LOVES a challenge, he LOVES what he does and he LOVES to
win!
- What did you enjoy most about playing
Jim?
I love what this guy has to say. You can tell he
LOVES to talk. Not babbling, but well thought out, pointed thoughts, comments, and questions. I
like being able to converse that way. Using Jim's dialogue is easy for me
and fun. His practicality, logic, dry wit, and ability to rattle others is
TOO much fun to play!
- Without giving too much away, tell us
about your favorite scene in the movie.
I have two favorites. One scene is Jim's opening
statement. This is what trial lawyers are known for, this is where they
make their reputations. Jim's is powerful and awesome. Delivered in a
calm, friendly, and logical manner—in contrast to the D.A.—Jim both engages
the jury and also masterfully sets the "stage" for what is to come.
The second scene is the cross examination of
Detective Carter. After earlier flustering Carter at DSS, it's really fun to fully "take him apart"
in court.
